This unique project, set in the popular coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, saw three of our companies work together to turn our clients’ visions into reality.
This family home is situated on the outskirts of the very popular coastal town, Plettenberg Bay. The home, affectionately known as Ashford, is a macadamia nut farm and cricket oval but moreover, a luxury retreat home whose homeowners fill their time entertaining and hosting guests. The design of the house is incredibly strategic in order to maximize the 360-degree views of the changing landscape; from forests to oceans to grasslands.
The property is rich in agriculture, tradition and a sense of family heritage. Whilst being a working Macadamia nut farm, Ashford is also a location for events such as festivals, weddings and parties at their newly built cricket facilities. The cricket facilities were built as a legacy for the late Bill McAdam, the homeowner’s father, to honour his belief that cricket was a gentleman’s game and to hold onto the traditions of the sport.
The home has been designed in such a way that it makes it as easy as possible to entertain guests as they can choose between an eastern or western verandah making it easy to avoid the wind. Spotlight Joinery built a stainless steel braai area on the eastern verandah that is hard-wearing making it perfect for large family gatherings.
The homeowners aimed to hero various items that they feature throughout the home. Items such as the display cabinet in the kitchen become a standout piece and focal point of the room. Spotlight Joinery assisted with this by building dark black joinery for the cabinetry to match the display cabinet with a white marble waterfall island that is large enough to seat all five of the homeowner’s children.
To find respite from hosting guests and visiting family, the couple retreats to their master suite. Here one can find the handiwork of Spotlight Joinery through the beautiful his and her walk-in wardrobes– each representing their personalities. This continues into the master ensuite where a more neutral approach is taken- the vanities have been completed to a neutral tone of light grey with a rattan insert and a plunge routered handle detail. Spotlight Joinery teamed up with Infin8 Surfacing to complete the bathroom with the addition of solid surfacing in the showers.
Additionally Infin8 Surfacing created a steam room for the home by cladding the space with solid surfacing- the perfect choice for wet areas as the product is completely impermeable to water and bacteria meaning that the room is as hygienic as possible. Infin8 Surfacing continued throughout the home with their unique Rosario Range basins.
Craft Furniture was also involved in the project as they created shelving for the laundry and linen closets made out of Japanese Cedar. A characteristically original choice as this timber selection creates a wonderful aroma for the clean laundry and linens. Moreover, Craft Furniture also completed all the bedside pedestals and assisted Spotlight Joinery in manufacturing timber pieces for the joinery that runs throughout the home.
Overall, this was a unique project experience that allowed us to provide our clients with a full basket of offerings that are available from the wonderful companies that form part of The Excellence Group.
