Situated beneath Table Mountain and commanding vistas of the Constantiaberg and Table Mountain ranges lies Constantia, the oldest wine-making region in the southern hemisphere. Constantia is home to many wine farms, museums and buildings that are steeped in tradition and history. Situated in this lush suburb lies Brommaert Terrace, a security estate that features six luxuriously designed homes aimed at curating easy living in elegance. This estate was managed and developed by the Kingshill Group. The architecture was done by Zeanne Duminy of Zeanne + Goss.
Brommaert Terrace has effectively been able to create a timeless aesthetic throughout the estate. Zeanne’s architecture perfectly embodied modern simplicity with clean lines, neutral colour pallets and open floor plans. This allowed the homeowners to personally customise and style their homes, based on their lifestyle and taste.
Both Spotlight Joinery and Craft Furniture worked with Zeanne and Kingshill Group to curate six beautiful homes featuring our kitchens, wardrobes and a variety of custom joinery. Although each home had similar designs and layouts, each homeowner brought their own style and taste to make the house a home.
Read MoreThis particular unit that we are featuring here successfully celebrates South African craftsmanship and design. The house is sprinkled in African art, Ardmore upholstery and of course, joinery and furniture designs created by local manufacturers. Spotlight Joinery was responsible for the kitchen, bespoke living room joinery, wardrobes, bathrooms, wine cellar as well as the outdoor entertainment kitchen and braai area.
The open-plan kitchen lies in the centre of the action, as the heart of the home should! It opens up onto the garden and outdoor entertainment area, overlooking the swimming pool and lush greenery of Constantia. The kitchen utilises reverse finger grip details to give the desired uninterrupted, modern look. The dark Duco cabinetry is broken up with a fresh white vicostone worktop featuring dark veining on the kitchen waterfall island and splashback.
The open plan kitchen, living and dining room utilise the natural, north-facing light with floor to ceiling windows and sliding doors leading out onto the outdoor entertaining space. This is where we created an outdoor kitchen and prep area around the braai. We went with more simple and durable design choices here in order to withstand the wear-and-tear and weather conditions.
In the dining room, this particular client requested built-in storage to act as a server. This design was matched to the joinery design in the living room, for consistency of style and flow throughout the home. The storage in the living room houses multimedia appliances and mirrors the bespoke wine storage built-in under the stairs.
Our timber specialists, Craft Furniture, brought the space to life with the addition of a slatted timber wall feature. This stand-out element was also done in the entrance hall, paired with a floor to ceiling mirror and floating joinery done by Spotlight Joinery. With the floating drawers in front of the mirror and slats, it gives the illusion of the drawers floating in the air.
This Constantia home is a true celebration of South African design through the use of patterns, textures, art and a variety of materials. It is always such an honour working with various local experts to bring these luxury homes to life.
